Intro

The husband loves his workshop and I love what comes out of it. I originally set up this blog for him, but the fact is that he is a crafter, not a writer. I've decided to take over his blog and share with you the work that he does. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop him an email.
Lovingly, the wife

Oak Table Completed!

The family has expanded as well as my social gatherings.  As is the norm in many families, everyone gathers at the dining room table. Our current dining room set was no longer as accommodating as it once was. There was only one thing to do. Add a simple task to Steve's Honey Do List. I needed a table the same size as I had, but able to expand to be a bit bigger.
We chose oak to match the china hutch we have.

Gotta have legs.

Could have had something fancy, but who wants to clean the crevices?
Not me.

Frame

The leafs.

Before staining

Just realized that not only does it match the china hutch,
the color matches our floor too! (lol)

The video below is a bit dark, but it shows how easy it is to expand the leafs. No need to find storage for them.

Granted, I am a bit on the edgy side when it comes to lifting and dropping the table edge, but that's just me. Once I get use to it, it'll be fine and it really is easy. The table will fit up to ten.  I love it!

What's Steve doing today?

We've had our dining room table for thirty years. We were lucky to find one that was exactly what we wanted at the time. Of course, as the years have passed, the kids have gotten bigger and our family size has increased. Currently we just throw up a card table at the end of the table to accommodate the extra guests. It works, but its kinda crummy as the card table is not at all solid.

I've been shopping for  years now for a new table and I haven't liked anything I saw. The answer was obvious. I just needed to tell Steve what it was that I wanted. He took the  suggestions and improved it to be even better.  And so it begins.

Here's a brace. (I think that's what he said.)

Pounding on something. (Glad it's not me.)

Coming together.

Hot diggity. It's a table!
But this isn't the end of it.  Soon, somehow (I have no idea how) there will be a scissor leaf added and the table length will double in size. I'm very excited about that. Almost as excited as I am about the new chairs he will build to go with it.

Spinning Wheel- We start them up around here

This little one can't stand up by herself yet, but she sure is attracted to the spinning wheel Steve built for me. Looks like it's just the right height for her. Hmm. I wonder if I can get him to add new pedals adjusted for her.

Speaking of the spinning wheel, it is working just great. Steve had to do a little nut adjusting (the spinning wheel, not me). I was having a little problem and wasn't sure if it was me or the wheel. Then I spun some already made yarn and it went on the spindle just fine. I figure the problem was me, but Steve said that it did need adjusting and now that's done. I can't wait to try it again.

Jewelry Boxes

Over the Christmas holiday, a client asked Steve to build a jewelry box as a gift. He made two.

The engraving gave this box an extra elegance.

This is the other one. It's made of Poplar and Mahogany.

I love the contrast of the wood.

This box will soon be put up on Etsy.  Valentine's Day is coming. Just a hint. :-)
